Title:
Columbia Sub Action
Description:
Northbound CSX local led by FL 3138 leaves the Siding and is about to cross the Augusta Sub at Fairfax, SC . Notice the unusual Signal to the right. It was known as a "Return to Train" Signal. It was a product of the SAL but saw little use after the SCL Merger as they were phased out. Back in the days of the Seaboard, they came in useful in the event of a communications failure. Crews could come back to their Train without having to call up the Dispatcher to get permission. There were also manual controls on the nearby Signal House to remotely operate the Signal as well. A very neat device and just another thing that made the SAL so unique!!!
